ओलिम्पिक खेलों का उद्घाटन जापान की राजधानी तोक्यो में पारम्परिक और औपचारिक रूप से होगा। भारतीय समय के अनुसार यह उद्घाटन समारोह शाम 4 बजकर 30 मिनट से शुरू होगा। इस बार ओलिम्पिक का शुभांकर है- मेरातोयवा। जापानी राजधानी तोक्यो में नव-निर्मित नेशनल स्टेडियम में आयोजित होने वाले इस उद्घाटन समारोह का आयोजन कोविड महामारी के कारण साधारण रूप से किया जायेगा।
उद्घाटन समारोह में किसी भी तरह की भव्यता नहीं होगी। इस समारोह में जापान के सौन्दर्य शास्त्र को दर्शाया जायेगा। 150 करोड़ की लागत से बने इस स्टेडियम में तोक्यो ओलिम्पिक के दौरान 68 हजार दर्शकों के बैठने की व्यवस्था है। हालांकि कोविड के चलते यह समारोह और कई खेल स्पर्धाएं बिना दर्शकों के आयोजित की जायेंगी, क्योंकि जापान में कोरोना के कारण आपातकाल लगा दिया गया है।
भारत के 120 से अधिक खिलाड़ी-
फ्रांस के राष्ट्रपति इमैनुएल मैक्रों और अमरीका के राष्ट्रपति जो बाइडन की पत्नी जिल बाइडन सहित 15 देशों के कई नेता और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संगठन इस समारोह को देखेंगे। तोक्यो ओलिम्पिक में 33 खेल स्पर्धाएं आयोजित की जायेंगी, जिसमें 206 देशों के 11 हजार खिलाड़ी भाग लेंगे। खेलों के इस महाकुंभ में भारत के 120 से भी ज्यादा खिलाड़ी भाग ले रहे हैं। भारत की ओर से महिला मुक्केबाज मेरीकाम और हॉकी टीम के कप्तान मनप्रीत सिंह उद्घाटन समारोह में भारत के ध्वजवाहक होंगे। इस बार तीन नई खेल स्पर्धाओं को भी शामिल किया गया है।
कोविड को लेकर ओलिम्पिक समिति ने कई दिशा-निर्देश
कोविड के बढ़ते प्रकरणों के कारण अंतर्राष्ट्रीय ओलिम्पिक समिति ने कई दिशा-निर्देश जारी किये हैं, जिसमें अगर कोई खिलाड़ी कोरोना संक्रमित पाया जाता है तो उसे बाहर करने की बजाय उसे डीएनएस यानी डिड नॉट स्टार्ट का दर्जा दिया जायेगा। ओलिम्पिक के दौरान दिये जाने वाले पदक जापान के रिसाईकल्ड इलैक्ट्रॉनिक उत्पादों से बने हैं। ये पदक खिलाड़ियों के उत्साह और विविधता को प्रदर्शित करेंगे। इन पदकों का डिजाइन भी जापान की संस्कृति को दर्शाता है। इस बार के ओलिम्पिक और पेरा ओलिम्पिक खेलों का विषय है- यूनाईटिड बाय इमोशन यानी भावनाओं से एकजुट होना। ओलिम्पिक खेलों का समापन समारोह आठ अगस्त को इसी स्टेडियम से होगा।

Star Pugilist Mary Kom, is one of India’s flagbearers in the Olympics this year and is another medal prospect for the country. She has several international medals to her name, including an Olympic bronze in the 2012 London Games. Competing in the 49 kilogram category, Mirabai Chanu became the first Indian weightlifter to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics on the basis of placing second on the Absolute Ranking List issued by the International Weightlifting Federation. Given India’s recent performances on the global stage, shooting is a promising discipline for India. Shooter Saurabh Chaudhary is representing India in two events, Men’s 10m air pistol and 10m air pistol mixed team. He became the youngest gold medallist at the Asian Games when he won the gold medal in the 2018 Asian games.
In the 2021 World cup in Delhi, he won medals in all the three categories he competed in, two gold in the team event and a silver in the individual event. The Mixed Team pair of Saurabh Chaudhry and Manu Bhaker is expected to win a medal for India. The pair won silver in the team event in Croatia earlier this year and has enjoyed much success in the World Cups over the last few years. Elavenil Valarivan and Divyansh Singh Panwar are also a pair to watch out for in Tokyo. Ace Shuttle P V Sindhu is the Rio Olympics silver medallist and will want to do one better this time at Tokyo, given her biggest competitor - Spain's Carolina Marin - has withdrawn due to injury.
Deepika Kumari who is now the number one archer in the world and is the lone female Indian archer to make the cut for the Tokyo Olympics and is coming off a hat-trick of gold medals in the recurve events at Archery World Cup in Paris held earlier in the year. She will also compete alongside Pravin Jadhav, Atanu Das and Tarundeep Rai in the team event. Star Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has been incredibly consistent in the Olympic year, routinely throwing the javelin around the 85 metre mark and holds a very good chance of making a podium finish. Indian Men's hockey team is ranked number four in the world and may just be India’s best chance yet to finally end a four-decade-long wait for success at the Olympics. And in the end, India has pinned high hopes on Seven wrestlers who have secured a spot in the Tokyo Olympics but the brightest medal prospects in the contingent are Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat.
