सोमनाथ मन्दिर भारतीय संस्कृति और मान्यताओं का अभिन्न अंग है। इस मन्दिर को कई बार तोड़ा गया और इतिहास से इसका अस्तित्व मिटाने की कोशिश की गई, लेकिन यह हर बार और अधिक भव्य बनकर उभरा। विनाश में निर्माण की यही प्रक्रिया है। आतंक के बल पर शासन खड़ा करने के लिए सत्ताओं को नष्ट करने की धारणा कुछ समय के लिए हावी हो सकती है, लेकिन यह अधिक समय तक नहीं चलती, न ही यह मानवता का दमन कर सकती है। हमारी सोच इतिहास से सीख लेकर वर्तमान को संवारने की होनी चाहिए जिससे भविष्य भी उज्जवल बन सके।
ये बात आज (20 अगस्त) वीडियो कांफ्रेंसिंग के माध्यम से गुजरात के सोमनाथ में अनेक परियोजनाओं का उदघाटन करते हुए प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने कहा। उन्होंने कहा, भारत जोडो आन्दोलन भौगोलिक और वैचारिक सीमाओं से बंधा नहीं है बल्कि इसमें देश के भविष्य के निर्माण का संकल्प भी है।
12 ज्योर्तिलिंग समूचे भारत को जोड़ते हैं-

83 करोड़ रुपये की चार परियोजनाएं-
प्रधानमंत्री ने आज (20 अगस्त) गुजरात के प्रसिद्ध सोमनाथ मंदिर की 83 करोड़ रुपये की चार परियोजनाओं का उद्घाटन और शिलान्यास किया। उन्होंने वीडियो कांफ्रेंस के माध्यम से सोमनाथ 'समुद्र दर्शन' पैदल पथ, सोमनाथ प्रदर्शनी केंद्र और नवीनकृत अहिल्याबाई होलकर मंदिर का उद्घाटन किया। इसके अतिरिक्त उन्होंने, मुख्य मंदिर के पास 30 करोड़ की लागत से बनने वाले श्री पार्वती मंदिर की आधारशिला भी रखा। उल्लेखनीय है, पीएम मोदी श्री सोमनाथ ट्रस्ट (SST ) के अध्यक्ष हैं। यह ट्रस्ट ही गिर-सोमनाथ के प्रभास पाटन शहर में स्थित विश्व प्रसिद्ध मंदिर का प्रबंधन करता हैं। इन परियोजनाओं का उद्घाटन और शिलान्यास हुआ-
एक किमी लंबे 'समुद्र दर्शन' पैदल पथ (47 करोड़ रु लागत)
प्राचीन कलाकृतियों का संग्रहालय (75 लाख रु)
श्री पार्वती मंदिर (30 लाख करोड़ रु लागत)

देश आम आदमी को एक दूसरे से जोडने के साथ पर्यावरण और तीर्थाटन के क्षेत्र में भी प्रगति कर रहा है। यात्रा और पर्यटन स्पर्धा सूचकांक के अनुसार भारत को 2013 में 65वें स्थान पर रखा गया था जबकि 2019 में वह 34वें स्थान पर आ गया है।
इस अवसर पर केन्द्रीय गृह मंत्री अमित शाह ने बताया, केन्द्र की 'प्रशाद योजना' के अंतर्गत सरकार सभी धार्मिक स्थलों में आधुनिक सुविधाएं उपलब्ध करा रही है। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी के सोमनाथ न्यास के अध्यक्ष बनने के बाद से अनेक विकास कार्य शुरू किये गये। सोमनाथ न्यास स्वच्छ भारत अभियान में पूर्ण सहयोग कर रहा है। पूर्व उप प्रधानमंत्री लाल कृष्ण आडवाणी और गुजरात के मुख्यमंत्री विजय रूपाणी भी इस अवसर पर उपस्थित थे।

Our faith in Shiva gives us a sense of our existence beyond the limits of time and gives us the strength to face the challenges. The Somnath (Jyotirling) temple was broken many times and effort was made to erase its existence in the history, but every time it got raised. These view were expressed by PM Narendra Modi, while inaugurating the various development projects at the Somnath Temple complex in Gujarat today (20 August). ,
has said that Somnath Temple is an integral part of Indian culture and ethos.
He said that 'Bharat Jodo Andolan', is not limited to geographical or ideological affiliations, but also a resolve to connect us with our past to build the future India. The arrangement of our four dhams, the concept of our Shaktipeeths and the establishment of different pilgrimages in different corners of the country is the outline of our faith and an expression of the spirit of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'.
He said that from Somnath and Nageshwar in the west to Baidyanath in the east and from Baba Kedarnath in the North to Shri Rameshwar in the South- these 12 Jyotirlingas are connecting the whole India.
Prime Minister Modi said that I have the privilege of inaugurating Samudra Darshan Path, Somnath Exhibition Gallery and old Somnath Temple in a new form after renovation.
He also laid the foundation stone of Parvati Mata temple near Somnath temple.
Mr. Modi also remembers Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar, who renovated many temples from Lord Vishwanath to Somnath temple. The country is not only connecting the common man, but also progressing through tourism and pilgrimage. He said India got 34th place in 2019 from 65th in 2013 in the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index.
Speaking on this occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said the government is providing modern facilities to all religious places under the PRASHAD scheme of the center.
He said that the series of developmental works have been taken up after the Prime Minister Modi has taken over as the Chairman of Shri Somnath Trust. He said, the Somnath Trust is fully contributing in Swachcha Bharat campaign.
Former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also joined the event along with other dignitaries.
